Jan completed his MD thesis studying the molecular processes underlying axonal degeneration in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis in the lab of Prof. Martin Kerschensteiner at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich, Germany. Realizing the impact of the immune system on various disease processes, Jan is now focusing on the immunology of myeloid neoplasms (acute myeloid leukemia, myelodysplastic syndrome) seeking to improve patient care by gaining a better understanding the underlying pathophysiology of the disease.
An additional research focus of his work is to improve care and outcomes of patients with hematological malignancies by combining clinical epidemiology, comparative effectiveness, and health services research.
