James Dodington, MD

James Dodington, MD, is the Medical Director for Injury and Violence Prevention Programs at Yale New Haven Hospital and an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine at the Yale School of Medicine. Over the course of his career he has been involved in injury and violence prevention program development and research. He serves as the Medical Director for a range of injury prevention programs with a focus on child passenger safety, violence and firearm injury prevention and consumer product safety. He is the founding Medical Director of the Yale New Haven Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program. His primary research interest is in youth violence prevention, with a focus on community-based participatory research in the development of violence intervention programs and injury epidemiology. He was the principal investigator for a violence prevention program implementation and evaluation grant from the Avielle Foundation and was the Research Director for an NIH-funded youth violence prevention study. He also serves as the Co-Leader of the Early Career Injury Prevention Group for the Injury Free Coalition for Kids (IFCK) and has co-authored multiple reviews and chapters on injury prevention with leaders from IFCK and the AAP. Dr. Dodington’s passion for injury prevention and research has allowed him to speak locally and nationally on topics from consumer product safety, water safety and drowning prevention to firearm injury prevention.
