Research Summary
Dr. Riera has various research interests related to the field of pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine. These include the use of point-of-care ultrasound to improve the efficiency of care and outcomes experienced by children in the emergency department and health care disparity reduction, primarily around issues related to communication for Latino children with asthma.
Extensive Research Description
Dr. Riera has lead and mentored clinical research projects in pediatric point-of-care ultrasound. He has published work related to the following topics: focused assessment with sonography for trauma, focused cardiac ultrasound, intussusception, peripheral vein assessments, pneumothorax considerations, and skull fracture evaluations.
Project INSPIRAR or the Impact of Native Spanish on Plan Implementation and Responsiveness: Asthma Research, is the title for our ongoing research efforts. We have developed an evidence based online resource, novel pictoral asthma action plans and a 12 minute instructional video all available on our website - asmaplan.com.
