Research Summary
Dr. Patel's research interests include the use of deep brain stimulation in the treatment of movement disorders, in particular Parkinson's disease, tremor and dystonia. He is interested in identifying the most appropriate patient candidates for this advanced therapy, as well as determining their optimal targets and programming parameters. Dr. Patel is also involved in clinical research regarding Wilson disease, a rare genetic disease affecting copper metabolism which can cause neurological, hepatic, and psychiatric illness. He is involved in research to better understand the natural history of the illness, its neurological manifestations, and treatment trials.
