My research interests have been in type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I am currently working on better understanding autoimmune mechanism and role of regulatory T cells and receptor of advanced glycation end product (RAGE) in the pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes. In addition, we are interested in checking new immune therapies, in particular humanized anti-CD3 monoclonal antibody, and study the metabolic and immunologic effects on the disease process.
I have previously worked on understanding the role of type 2 diabetes, obesity and hyperinsulinemia and the risk it imposes in the development of endometrial hyperplasia and cancer. I have also been interested in studying the role of insulin on the hypothalamus- pituitary- ovarian axis, puberty and mammary gland development.
