Biography

Amanda Mele (pronouns: she/her/hers) received her B.A. in Psychology and a B.A. in Women and Gender Studies from Bates College in 2019. Prior to her role, she worked to promote inclusivity on her undergraduate campus with faculty and students with the guidance of the Dean of Accessibility, Abigail Nelson. Currently, she works as a research assistant in Dr. Ariadna Forray's Center of Well-being for Women and Mothers, at Yale University, focusing on substance use disorders in certain populations. Amanda is investigating how technology and tools such as EMA, online community learning groups, interviewing, can aid understanding of approaches to prenatal care, hoping to improve outcomes for both mom and baby. Ultimately, she hopes to use research as a tool to facilitate change to better understand and meet community needs. Amanda particularly enjoys qualitative interviews and is curious about the ways motivation plays a part in how humans chose to cope. More so, she values how conversations and education facilitate growth within the self and among the greater community.

Amanda works on two studies with Dr. Ariadna Forray in the lab. Read more about their current projects.
