Support Yale Center for the Science of Cannabis and Cannabinoids

(YC-SCAN²)

A hub for groundbreaking research in cannabis and cannabinoid science.

Cannabis Research at Yale relies on the generosity of our donors. Your thoughtful gift enables us to advance rigorous, evidence-based science on the therapeutic and neurobiological effects of cannabis, train and mentor the next generation of researchers and clinicians, support education and outreach efforts that promote informed public discourse, and contribute to policies grounded in scientific evidence that can improve public health.

Larger gifts may be named, and all gifts may be made in honor or memory of family members or friends.

Gifts in partnership with YC-SCAN2

Through planned giving, YC-SCAN2 can help donors make gifts that provide income for donors that can keep pace with inflation, avoid capital gains taxes, and reduce estate tax liability. To become a partner through planned giving, options include:

Charitable Gift Annuities — Immediate or Deferred

A gift of cash or securities to YC-SCAN2, resulting in a lifetime annuity for the donor or an income stream for a loved one

Charitable Remainder Trusts A trust of securities which will pay income to the donor or loved ones for a number of years, with the remainder at the end of the term of the trust donated to YC-SCAN2

Gifts of Appreciated Securities The gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds that have appreciated in value, thus avoiding taxes on built-in capital gain

Legacy Gift As simple as leaving a dollar amount or percentage of your estate to YC-SCAN2 in a will or trust, this method can also include naming YC-SCAN2 as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy or of the remaining funds in a retirement plan or IRA

Give for your reunion

All gifts to the Yale Center for the Science of Cannabis and Cannabinoids, as with other Yale University priorities, receive full Yale College reunion credit. Click here to give now through the Yale University Office of Development Website

Endowed Gifts

Two types of giving are: endowed funds and current-use gifts. Endowed funds, managed by the Yale Investments Office, offer a permanent legacy. Current-use gifts are donations spent in their entirety over a period of time. Larger gifts may be named, and all gifts can be made in honor or memory of family members or friends.

A record of growth

Many of today’s advances in medicine and mental health—from novel therapeutics to evidence-based clinical practices—begin with an innovative idea. Before these ideas can inform patient care or public policy, they must be rigorously tested, refined, and validated through scientific research. Yet many promising lines of inquiry never reach this critical early stage due to limited funding.

That is where the Cannabis Research Center plays a vital role. The Center provides essential seed funding to support innovative investigators studying the neurobiological, therapeutic, and public health impacts of cannabis and cannabinoids. These early investments allow researchers to generate preliminary data, refine methodologies, and position their work for competitive external funding from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal and private sponsors.

Through our pilot and early-stage research initiatives, the Cannabis Research Center has helped launch high-impact projects that advance scientific understanding, inform clinical decision-making, and contribute to evidence-based policy. A significant proportion of supported investigators are junior and mid-career faculty, for whom early funding is often decisive in establishing independent research programs and long-term career trajectories.

As federal research funding becomes increasingly competitive—particularly for cannabis-related science—the Cannabis Research Center remains committed to ensuring that rigorous, unbiased research continues to move forward. With your support, we can sustain this momentum, expand opportunities for emerging investigators, and accelerate discoveries that improve public health and patient care.
