December 13, 2020

Two faculty in the Yale Department of Psychiatry have been elected to Associate Membership of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP).

Dylan Gee, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, and Nii Addy, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, were elected to join the College at its 59th Annual Meeting, held virtually December 6-9.

Membership in the ACNP is by nomination only. Members must be nominated by an eligible ACNP member.

Associate members are eligible for election if their career interest is in the field of neuropsychopharmacology, and if they have demonstrated potential to become superior investigators in the field.

According to its mission, ACNP is a professional society dedicated to advancing the scientific understanding of and facilitating communication about disorders of the brain and behavior to advance their prevention and treatment.

Gee also has a faculty appointment in the Yale Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on developmental psychopathology with a focus on early adversity and risk for anxiety and stress-related disorders.

Her laboratory bridges clinical, developmental, and neuroscience approaches to delineate the biological state of the developing brain to more effectively treat mental illness.

“I am honored to be joining such a distinguished group of scientists,” Gee said. “Particularly given my work at the intersection of basic and clinical science, I have appreciated the emphasis on translational research and the vibrant intellectual community of ACNP.”

Addy directs a federally funded research program investigating the neurobiological bases of substance use disorders, depression, and anxiety. His team also studies the ability of tobacco product flavor additives to alter nicotine use behavior and addiction.

In addition, Addy has built unique partnerships between scientists, clinicians, churches, faith leaders, entertainers, professional athletes, and community groups to address issues at the intersection of neuroscience, mental health, faith, culture, and social justice.

“I’m grateful to be selected as a new Associate Member of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology,” Addy said. “I look forward to contributing to the College’s mission of research and education in psychiatry and pharmacology, and its commitment to addressing diversity, equity, inclusion, and health disparities.”
