Rebecca Miller, PhD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, has been selected to receive the Goldberg Leadership in Education Award from the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 18 (Psychologists in Public Service).
The award will be presented at Division 18’s annual business meeting on Aug. 10, 2019. It recognizes an educator with an outstanding record of teaching or training at any level of education. Recipients are nominated by their peers.
Criteria include:
- The educator should have demonstrated leadership as a teacher, supervisor, mentor, and/or training director;
- The educator should embrace innovative approaches designed to foster new ways of teaching, new topics for teaching, or expanding psychology’s role in the education of other health trainees;
- The educator demonstrates originality, creativity, and innovation in his or her work;
- Consideration will be given to the educator’s contributions that strengthen existing, or encourage new, beneficial relationships within an organization or with an external organization.
Miller is Director of Peer Support & Family Initiatives at the Connecticut Mental Health Center. In 2018 she was honored for Outstanding Contributions as a Teacher by the Yale Department of Psychiatry’s Psychology Section.
APA’s Division 18 provides a forum for its members to discuss common professional interests, to advocate for the mental health needs of the public, and to promote the use of evaluation and research in public research programs. It responds to the needs of the public in areas such as psychological practice, research, training, and policy formation.
