Biography

Justin Ayankola, MD grew up in the great state of Texas where he received his undergraduate education at Texas Tech University and fell in love with the prospect of being a physician. However, before embarking on this journey he also had a strong desire to dive into social justice and basic science. Consequentially, he ventured all the way from the south to the east coast to go to medical school at Harvard University to blend all these passions together. While in medical school he was particularly active in the Student National Medical Association as Harvard’s chapter outreach liaison, he also mentored disadvantaged high school students from the surrounding areas, and was involved in basic science research concerning late onset bipolar specifically elucidating the possible mechanism of lamotrigine’s effectiveness in treating this disease. In addition to these projects Justin was awarded a research fellowship from HIV vaccine trials network to further understand vaccine induced seropositivity in individuals who participate in HIV vaccine trials all around the world. With these experiences in hand Justin embarked to find a specialty that could bring all his interests full circle. During his third year of medical school, he, through several rotations, realized becoming a child psychiatrist really encompassed these passions seamlessly and beautifully. He completed his adult training at Yale University and continued his child training at Yale Child Study Center- Solnit South track. His current interests in psychiatry include school based mental health centers and optimizing outpatient healthcare delivery models. He is currently an APA Diversity Leadership Fellow and is involved in the Graduate Medical Education Committee at the Yale New Haven Hospital. His free time is spent exploring the many amazing eateries in Connecticut with his wife.
