Van Deusen Incoming Chair of AACAP Transitional Age Youth and College Student Mental Health Committee

Timothy Van Deusen, MD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has been selected as incoming chair of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), Transitional Age Youth and College Student Mental Health Committee.

Van Deusen will assume the role at AACAP’s annual meeting in October. He will be co-chair with Brian Skehan, MD, PhD, from the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

The mission of the Transitional Age Youth and College Student Mental Health (TAY-CSMH) Committee is to advocate for developmentally based, culturally competent, evidence-informed, and ethically sound comprehensive mental health promotion, prevention, and intervention services for the population defined by the developmental stage spanning late adolescence and into young adulthood.

Van Deusen has been a member of the committee since 2016 and has collaborated with other members to give multiple presentations at the American Psychiatric Association and AACAP annual meetings. He has also co-authored publications discussing the special challenges and psychiatric morbidity that occurs in this stage of life.

Van Deusen is an attending psychiatrist for the Young Adult Service at Yale School of Medicine, Residency Site Training Director at the Connecticut Mental Health Center, and Medical Director at the West Haven Mental Health Clinic.
