Olfson honored by NIMH, ACNP

July 10, 2019

Emily Olfson, MD, PhD, a fourth-year resident in the Albert J. Solnit Integrated Training Program, has been awarded the 2019 National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Outstanding Resident Award.

Olfson also has been chosen to receive a travel award through the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP). The award provides registration, accommodations, transportation, and a stipend for recipients to attend the ACNP 2019 Annual Meeting, which will be in Orlando, Fla., in December 2019. Recipients may also present a poster abstract and will have an ACNP member mentor for the meeting.

Both awards recognize outstanding young scientists. The NIMH award will be given in September 2019 at the National Institutes of Health campus in Bethesda, Maryland. Recipients may participate in poster sessions during the two-day event, and also will tour the NIH campus and meet with NIMH leadership.

Olfson has received other awards while at Yale, including the 2018 Pilot Research Award by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. In 2017 she was honored with a New Investigator Award during the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.

She is a graduate of the MD/PhD program at Washington University School of Medicine. Her current research uses exome sequencing to better understand the genetics of childhood-onset psychiatric conditions.

The Solnit Integrated Training Program is a 6-year research track residency for physicians who want to specialize in child psychiatry. It is a collaboration between the Yale Department of Psychiatry and Yale Child Study Center.
