Haeny receives travel award, grant to fund pilot project

Angela Haeny, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow in the Division of Prevention and Community Research and The Consultation Center, received a travel award from Division 50 of the American Psychological Association to attend the Collaborative Perspectives on Addiction Conference in Rhode Island in April.

Haeny also was chosen to receive a grant from the Learning for Early Careers in Addiction & Diversity (LEAD) Program to fund her pilot project, "Understanding the Development, Maintenance, and Treatment of Substance Use Disorders Among Racially/Ethnically Diverse Substance Users."

LEAD was developed to support early career researchers from underrepresented backgrounds successfully obtain funding from the National Institutes of Health as independent investigators. Participating in this training program involves serving as a visiting scholar at the University of California - San Francisco campus for three consecutive summers to receive extensive training in grant writing and related scholarship work. Each scholar receives over $20,000 in funds for a pilot study to serve as preliminary data for a larger grant application.

Haeny is a 2018 graduate of the Yale Department of Psychiatry's Doctoral Internship in Clinical & Community Psychology.
