Wasser appointed Whiting Forensic Division Medical Director at CVH

Tobias Wasser, MD, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, has been appointed Whiting Forensic Division (WFD) Medical Director at Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown.

Wasser will direct staff, services, and programs of WFD, and supervise the WFD Service Medical Directors. He will oversee the clinical care on the inpatient units of both the maximum and enhanced security services; consult on difficult cases; develop, implement, and evaluate policies; oversee the quality improvement and educational activities of the division; and participate in division-related research. His appointment takes effect in July.

Connecticut Valley Hospital is operated by the state Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services to treat people with mental illness.

Wasser will remain on the faculty at Yale, and will participate in educational activities of the residency and forensic and public fellowships.

He graduated from the Yale Residency Program in 2014, and was program-wide Chief Resident for Medical Education and Director of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Education for the residency. He completed fellowships in Forensic Psychiatry and Public Psychiatry at Yale, and is the Associate Program Director in the Public Psychiatry Fellowship. He is inpatient attending psychiatrist at the Connecticut Mental Health Center.

He chairs the Quality Improvement Collaborative of the Yale Department of Psychiatry, and co-chairs the Medication Safety and Education and Training committees at CMHC.

Wasser has 26 publications to his credit, and earlier in 2017 was chosen by the American Association of Psychiatric Administrators to receive the organization's Best Resident/Fellow Paper Award.
