D.A.R.E. America to honor Yale Psychiatry alumnus

D.A.R.E. America will honor Mark Gold, MD, an alumnus of the Yale psychiatry residency, for his groundbreaking work in basic and clinical addiction research and for training the next generation of researchers and clinicians in Addiction Medicine.

Gold will be recognized December 1 at a benefit reception at The Metropolitan Club in New York. Speakers will include William J. Bratton, commissioner of the New York City Police Department, and Rikki Klieman, legal analyst for CBS News Corp.

Gold completed his residency in psychiatry at Yale in 1978, and received the department’s Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2008.

He is a translational researcher, author, and inventor best known for his pioneering work on the brain systems underlying the effects of opiates.

He is a former Donald Dizney Eminent Scholar, Distinguished Professor, and Chair of Psychiatry at the University of Florida. He is currently chair of the Scientific Advisory Boards for RiverMend Health, and is an adjunct professor of psychiatry at Washington University in St. Louis.

He is a teacher of the year, researcher and inventor who has worked for over 40 years to develop models for understanding the effects of tobacco, cocaine, opiates and other drugs and also food on the brain and behavior.
