A Yale-affiliated team has published a large national study of more than 1.58 million veterans who received outpatient care for major depressive disorder between 2011 and 2025.
The study, published in JAMA Network Open, found that most veterans received psychotherapy, antidepressant medication, or both. At the same time, the proportion receiving neither recommended treatment increased over the study period, highlighting the need to better understand barriers to mental health care.
