Tami Sullivan, PhD, professor of psychiatry, has been awarded the Distinguished Mentorship Award by the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS), an honor that recognizes sustained excellence in mentoring within the field of traumatic stress research and practice.
The award is given to individuals who consistently serve as effective mentors, guiding trainees through their professional development in relationships defined by mutual respect and genuine investment in the mentee's growth. It recognizes not a single accomplishment, but a body of work built over years of supporting others in the field.
Sullivan directs the Division of Prevention and Community Research in the Department of Psychiatry and leads a NIDA-funded postdoctoral research training program in substance use prevention. Her research program focuses on individual and system-level factors that affect the well-being of women who experience intimate partner violence, with an emphasis on resilience and recovery from trauma and substance use.
