Srinivas B. Muvvala, MD, MPH, associate professor of psychiatry, has been chosen to receive the 2026 Award for Residency Education from the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP).
The award recognizes an addiction psychiatrist with a sustained record of outstanding contributions and long-term dedication to psychiatry residency education in addiction psychiatry. Muvvala is associate program director for the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship at Yale School of Medicine and medical director of the Connecticut Mental Health Center.
He has received many awards for his teaching and professional accomplishments, including the American Psychiatric Association’s Irma Bland Award for his contribution to resident education in psychiatry, the Stephen Fleck Faculty Award at Yale School of Medicine, and the Yale Psychiatry Residents Association Teaching Award.
His clinical and research interests focus on developing and disseminating optimal pharmacotherapies for the treatment of substance use disorders, as well as providing integrated treatment for individuals with comorbid substance use, medical, and psychiatric disorders. He has led multiple nationally funded projects and clinical trials, as both investigator and study physician.
