The Yale Department of Psychiatry’s Doctoral Internship in Clinical & Community Psychology has been recognized as one of the most sought-after psychology internships in the United States, according to the website Online Psychology Degrees.
The training program, which has been continuously accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1970, tied for #4 in the most recent U.S. News and World Report Graduate Psychology Rankings.
The program annually accepts more than 15 students who train at one of two Yale-affiliated organizations: the Connecticut Mental Health Center and Yale New Haven Hospital. Prospective interns, referred to as psychology fellows, apply to one of the 10 placements that are based in these facilities. The internship begins on July 1 and concludes on June 30 of each academic year.

“We are also very proud of our outstanding psychology training faculty for their dedication to psychology training and for their expertise in delivery of psychological services," said Rajita Sinha, PhD, deputy chair for psychology in the Yale Department of Psychiatry.
The program, recently featured here in a video, provides state-of-the-art training to the next generation of health service psychologists that:
- Prepares them for entry-level practice in which they deliver high quality services within an increasingly integrated healthcare landscape;
- Fosters growth and development of psychology leaders and innovators who can effectively apply their knowledge and skills to ensure access, availability, and affordability of psychological interventions to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse public;
- Fosters academic leadership and development, including scholarly contributions to the field.
Childs said the program’s trainees strengthen the internship with their expertise, and that their contributions are part of what distinguishes the program.
