September 11, 2020

Xiaoyu Liang, PhD, a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Psychiatry, has received an Early Career Investigator Program (ECIP) travel award for the International Society of Psychiatric Genetics’ 2020 Virtual World Congress of Psychiatric Genetics (WCPG) this fall.

Liang earned her PhD from Michigan Technological University in 2018. Her research focuses on developing statistical methods and computational tools to map complex disease genes based on population data and pedigree data. Currently she is working on epigenome-wide association studies for alcohol consumption and developing an R package for simulating data from images to evaluate the performance of clustering algorithms.

The Congress will be held virtually on Oct.16, 19-22. As an awardee, Liang will receive registration reimbursement to the 2020 WCPG and 2021 WCPG in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, as well as a travel stipend for the 2021 WCPG. Liang will also be assigned a senior researcher to serve as a mentor.

The WCPG is the premier international scientific meeting for research in psychiatric genetics and related areas. Leading experts from all over the world in the area of genetics, neuroscience, and psychiatry will participate.
