Flavia DeSouza, MD, MHS, a fourth-year resident in the Yale Department of Psychiatry, has been awarded a 2019-20 fellowship position with the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA).
DeSouza will receive free travel, lodging, meals, and registration expenses at the APsaA annual meeting in New York City in February 2020 and will be matched with a mentor for monthly meetings. She will have opportunities to present clinical work at conferences presented by APsaA fellows.
The fellowship is designed to help train future leaders and educators in the fields of psychiatry, psychology, social work, and academia. It provides an opportunity to gain knowledge about psychoanalysis and become involved in local and national psychoanalytic communities.
DeSouza received her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine in 2016. She has earned other honors while at Yale, including the 2017-18 Scholar Award given by the Yale Global Mental Health Program. She was accepted into the Connecticut State Medical Society’s Young Physician Leadership Curriculum in 2017.
