Robert D. Kerns, PhD, Professor of Psychiatry, of Neurology and of Psychology, has been appointed to serve as a member of the Interagency Pain Research Coordinating Committee (IPRCC) of the National Institutes of Health.
IPRCC is a federal advisory committee created by the Department of Health and Human Services to enhance pain research efforts and to promote collaboration across government with the goals of advancing the fundamental understanding of pain and improving pain-related treatment strategies.
Kerns' term on the committee begins immediately and ends July 31, 2020.
In other news, Kerns was honored with the 2018 Outstanding Psychology Alumni Award from the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV.
Kerns is a recognized expert in pain management and clinical and health services research targeting veterans. He is a member of a Yale-based research team that is developing the Pain Management Collaboratory Coordinating Center (PMC3). The PMC3 will provide national leadership and serve as a national resource in the conducting of high impact pragmatic clinical trials on nondrug approaches to manage pain and other comorbid conditions in veteran and military health care systems.
