The New Haven Mental Health Outreach for Mothers, or MOMS Partnership, has been awarded a $500,000 grant from the Kresge Foundation to support its work.
MOMS Partnership is among 13 human services organizations in the United States chosen to receive grants. The initiative is part of Kresge's Human Services Program, which is focused on the advancement of human services to accelerate social and economic mobility for people with low incomes in America's cities.
MOMS Partnership is comprised of academics from Yale, city officials, and community groups who work to meet the mental health needs of low-income mothers in the city. Its mission is to unite women and their families with people and institutions dedicated to the emotional wellness of mothers in order to create generations of children that flourish, succeed, and achieve. It is directed by Megan Smith, DrPH, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Yale School of Medicine.
The duration of the grant is two years, and representatives from the 13 organizations will collaborate so that lessons from their work may be shared with the wider human services field.
“This is a dynamic group of organizations who are setting the pace of evolution for human services with a focus on advancing and accelerating mobility,” said Raquel Hatter, deputy director of The Kresge Foundation’s Human Services Program, in a statement. “Families and communities across the country continue to struggle with the daily realities of living in poverty and the challenges of moving forward. These organizations are reimagining our support systems by co-creating solutions with people to best help them achieve their goals and dreams. The cohort leaders are joining a movement that is transforming the human services sector to have an unrelenting commitment to successful outcomes.”
