Law and Psychiatry Fellowship Program

Living in New Haven

A variety of housing is available to you, from apartments to condos and houses. You may choose to live in New Haven or live just outside in any of the numerous suburbs. Expect your housing costs to be approximately $850-$1500 per month for a one-bedroom apartment or condominium. Utilities will vary depending on usage and weather. Contact the Yale Housing service for more information and access to its listings.

You will need a car during your residency, as you will be going to Middletown once a week and to various DOC facilities and courts over the course of your year with Law & Psychiatry. As one of the major cities in Connecticut, New Haven is a main train stop for Amtrak, Metro-North, and Shoreline East. There is also a good public transportation system within the city; as well you will have access to the Yale Shuttle Service. Just as it is in many cities, parking is at a premium here, and all Yale employees must pay for monthly parking at Connecticut Mental Health Center. Tweed New Haven Airport is located on the outskirts of New Haven and Bradley International Airport is less than an hour away.
