Humanities in Medicine / Howard Spiro Lecture Series: "Photography, Healing and the Relational Matrix"

Linda Cummings is an internationally recognized visual artist/photographer and teacher of photography. She is also a practicing psychotherapist with a particular interest in the psychology of the creative process; her photographic work is a window on the exploration and appreciation of the creativity available to us in our everyday lives. Her recent work “Stirring the Waters” is a yearlong photographic exploration of the Farm River in Branford where from her kayak perch on the tidal river “she stirs, splashes, strokes and draws upon its surface”. She captures moments as silence and discovers hidden sources of remarkable beauty in nature.

Ms. Cummings’ work is not only a portal on the creative process but is also linked to the healing properties of beauty alone and in nature. Her dual role as photographer and psychotherapist is bridged by this pursuit of beauty and its annealing and healing effects.

We hope you are able to attend this visual and creative feast. Linda is commanding in person as well as on gelatin sheets. It is our good fortune to be able to host her on this occasion.
