Online Psychoanalytic Gathering: Working with Gender Non-conforming Individuals

As one attempt to return things back to the way they were, the psychoanalytic gatherings group would like to try something new with an online gathering. While presenting long cases online leads to difficulties with maintaining the high level of privacy required for such presentations, we are considering more didactic sessions that use short disguised/altered vignettes that can illustrate psychonalytic concepts.

For our first Zoom session, Dr. Lisa Marcus will present on work with gender non-conforming individuals (children, adolescents, and adults). In order to better adapt the presentation to your interests, we would like to take questions or topics of interest from you all. Examples of topics / questions are considerations in psychiatric evaluations for gender-affirming surgeries (one's perceived roles in the healthcare system as a "gatekeeper" or treater), unique challenges in working with an individual who may be confused about their gender and/or sexuality, and common issues that may come up in working with someone in the process of transitioning gender identities.

As always, it is a casual gathering that is meant to introduce psychoanalytic concepts and treatment. No mental health experience is necessary. Although we normally provide dinner and beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), we request that you supply your own this time 🙂 ; feel free to enjoy them during the presentation. Attendance is still limited to those who have had training or work experience with clinical care (to appreciate the extensive level of privacy that exceeds HIPAA).

If you are interested in joining, please feel free to email me at eric.lin@yale.edu . I'll send the suggestion box link and Zoom link to you.
