The careers of Drs. Aghajanian and Heninger have spanned six decades, combining for over 100 years of service at Yale. They have been leaders, innovators, and educators in clinical, basic, and translational research, and have contributed to dramatic changes in the neurobiology and treatment of psychiatric illnesses. They epitomize the Department of Psychiatry's mission: to conduct cutting edge research, to translate these findings to novel treatments, to elucidate the pathophysiology of psychiatric illnesses, and to train the next generation of clinicians and researchers to carry on this work. They have been guiding forces for our department, as well as the international community of neurobiological psychiatry during this incredible timespan, and still continue to pursue their interests and life’s work.
