The results of a statewide survey and needs assessment of the LGBTQ+ community in Connecticut have been released.
The Consultation Center at Yale, a program of the Yale Department of Psychiatry, partnered with Connecticut’s LGBTQ+ Health and Human Services Network and the Connecticut Department of Public Health Office of Health Equity to create and launch the first statewide LGBTQ+ survey and needs assessment in early 2021.
The newly released 2021 Connecticut LGBTQ+ Community Survey Needs Assessment Report aims to increase understanding of the number of people that identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community in Connecticut and understand their needs, including safety, housing, health, mental health, legal services, social support, and community engagement.
Survey organizers, including Amy Griffin, MA, Director of Health Evaluation Initiatives at The Consultation Center, attended a news conference November 9 in Hartford to promote the report.
Griffin told The Day of New London in May that the survey and subsequent report will be used to inform lawmakers, advocates, and funders about the needs of the LGBTQ+ community in the state.
“This survey was done in part in response to advocates that held listening sessions back in 2018 with LGBTQ+ communities and the idea that we need to learn more about what LGBTQ+ people are experiencing in Connecticut,” Griffin told the newspaper.
