Michael Awad, PhD

Michael Awad joined the YaleEVAL team in 2018 following a two-year policy fellowship at the Office of Behavioral Equity in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where he co-led several national initiatives focused on eliminating health disparities and improving access, utilization, and outcomes of mental health services for vulnerable populations. Michael previously served as a school counselor and career counselor in New York City public and private schools. Michael’s evaluation and scholarly work focuses on promoting positive outcomes for young people through approaches such as school mental health, positive youth development, health promotion and substance abuse prevention, and social marketing. He currently chairs the New Haven Prevention Council, a twelve-sector community coalition focused on reducing adolescent substance and alcohol abuse in New Haven. As part of this, he coordinates a health promotion program in New Haven Public Schools called OneStep. Michael holds a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Columbia University and is a graduate of Yale’s Doctoral Internship in Clinical and Community Psychology.
