Benefits Counseling

  • Developing and testing Benefits Counseling, a therapy designed to encourage Veterans who are applying for disability benefits to work and/or engage in vocational rehabilitation.
  • Developing and testing a remotely-delivered version of the Benefits Counseling intervention.

SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, Referral to Treatment)

  • Developing and testing SBIRT, a therapy designed to screen Veterans applying for Compensation & Pension for substance abuse and help facilitate the transition to treatment.

CAFI (Clinician Assessment of Financial Incapability)

  • Developing, validating, and testing CAFI, a brief clinician-administered screening tool to assess SSI/SSDI beneficiaries’ ability to manage their benefit payments.

ATM (Advisor Teller Money Manager)

  • Testing ATM, a therapy designed to help clients with mental illness and/or addictive disorders manage their money better.

CARE (Centralized Off-Site Adherence Enhancement Program)

  • Developing and pilot testing CARE, a telephone-based intervention program supported by information technology.
  • CARE combines contingency management for medication adherence and a cognitive-behavioral approach to aid in adherence to antiretroviral therapy and abstinence from substances of abuse.

Benefits Management/Payee Facilitation

  • Testing Benefits Management, a therapy designed to help clients who are "at risk" for needing a payee because of a psychiatric illness.
  • Benefits Management targets individuals who might need a representative payee, provides brief money management counseling, and counsels individuals about representative payees.

GIFT (Gaining Immediate Financial Training)

  • Testing a therapy designed to help disabled people manage their money better.
