Biography

Thomas Yang, MD, MS is a Clinical Instructor and a former Simulation Fellow in the Department of Emergency Medicine and the Yale Center of Medical Simulation. After his fellowship, Dr. Yang will be joining the Department of Emergency Medicine at Yale as both a clinician and simulation faculty at the Yale Center of Medical Simulation.

He attended Chicago Medical School and completed his residency in Aventura Hospital and Medical Center in Aventura, FL where he served as a chief resident in administration and medical education. Currently, his primary interests include medical education curriculum design, learning theories, education assessment, teamwork and communication in healthcare settings.

Dr. Yang's interest in medical education started with the involvement with EMRA during residency. He served as the chair-elect and chair in the Education Committee. Under his leadership, Dr. Yang has contributed to several projects during his term including Quiz Show, 20 in 6, EMRA book chapters, pocketbook creation and many more.

Dr. Yang continued to show interest in medical education as he was one of the first fellows for MDCalc. During his term, he has authored the Canadian syncope risk score. Currently, he still serves as one of the active contributors with MDcalc as he recently published the practice pearls for atrial fibrillation and stroke risk.

Dr. Yang believes that medical simulation is a great tool for medical education and teamwork. He is currently active in delivering medical education to medical students and emergency medicine residents. He is also actively collaborating with the section of Global Health in the Department of Emergency Medicine to deliver medical simulation to Emergency Medicine residents in Uganda. Currently, Dr. Yang is also the co-leader for delivering in-situ simulation to Yale-St.Raphael Campus and Yale-Shoreline Campus every month. He hopes to continue his work and expand to system-wide activity to deliver teamwork and communication for healthcare workers in acute care settings.

For his administrative duties, Dr. Yang currently sits as one of the members for ACEP's Academic Affairs committee. Also, he is in the editorial team for EMSIMCASES, a Canadian-based blog in creating and sharing peer-reviewed simulation cases and curricula around the world.
