Dr. Susan Garwood is the Associate Director of Cardiac Anesthesia and the Director of Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE) at Yale New Haven Hospital. Dr. Garwood received her medical degree from Edinburgh University in 1986. Following her residency at King’s College Hospital as an Anatomy Demonstrator, she completed a residency in Intensive Care and Anesthesia at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth, England. Subsequently, Dr. Garwood went on to complete a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesia at the Yale University School of Medicine and joined the Yale faculty as Associate Professor of Anesthesiology. While at Yale, Dr. Garwood has served as Director of Resident Education at the VA Department of Anesthesia and is currently actively involved in both resident and fellow educational activities. Her clinical expertise in cardiac anesthesia, particularly in the areas of renal function/preservation and transesophageal echocardiography, has resulted in numerous regional and national presentations. She has presented at major national anesthesia meetings, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesia.
