Naomi H Philip, PhD

Naomi H. Philip investigated the role of cell death in macrophage anti-bacterial responses during her PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. Under the mentorship of Dr. Igor Brodsky, she identified new roles for caspase-8 in response to Yersinia pseudotuberculosis infection. In her postdoctoral research in Ruslan Medzhitov's Lab, Naomi is pursuing questions related to the role of macrophages in maintaining tissue homeostasis. She is interested in the basis of heterogeneity in responsiveness, cell quality control, mechanisms of tissue repair and the resolution of inflammation. Beginning in her undergraduate years and now in her postdoc, Naomi is deeply committed to engaging in STEM outreach and promoting diversity and belonging in academia.
