Michael Mensah

Michael O. Mensah, MD, MPH completed his residency in psychiatry at UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience, where he served as chief resident, prior to coming to Yale. Dr. Mensah received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and African American Studies from Princeton University and his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. He earned his MPH at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health as a Zuckerman Fellow. During residency, he was elected to the American Psychiatric Association Board of Trustees as the only voting trainee member, and currently serves as co-editor of Psychiatric Service's race and mental health column. His early career research and writing concerns racial and gender equity within medicine's workforce, and has been featured in the New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA Internal Medicine, Scientific American, and the Journal of General Internal Medicine.

Career Interests: Dr Mensah intends to embark on a career that prioritizes addiction, mental illness, and racism against their respective stigmas in order to de-ostracize marginalized and minoritized populations.
