Biography
Jim Hagen, Ph.D., has been the director of advancement for the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence since 2013. He holds a B.A. from Whitman College, an M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Michigan. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Penn State University and the University of Cincinnati, where he also taught, and he was a lecturer at John Carroll University and a visiting professor at Mount Holyoke College. He is the author of “Community in the Balance,” a book on morality, sorcery, and social change based on two years of fieldwork in eastern Indonesia, as well as several articles on kinship, gift exchange, and the origins of Indonesian nationalism. He is currently working on a book on compassion.
