Emma Elizabeth Spurlock

Biography

Emma Spurlock is an MPH graduate from the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department at the Yale School of Public Health. Emma is a current Presidential Management Fellow (PMF) at the Department of Health and Human Services focused on refugee and asylum seeker healthcare delivery. She has worked as a consultant for the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance and UNICEF's adolescent mental health devision, and as a specialist at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluations (IHME). Ms. Spurlock has extensive experience in mixed methods analysis, geographic information systems (GIS), sustainable development, global health, health policy and community-based participatory research.

  • Traction Nepal
    Kathmandu, Bagmati Province, Nepal 2018
    Participated in an innovative, interdisciplinary community-based project implementation and impact assessment in a marginalized community of Kathmandu. The project was in collaboration with Nepal Communitere and Traction Nepal. Developed and implemented community-based participatory impact assessments which informed project development and direction of future projects.     Kampala, Central Region, Uganda 2017
    Participated in a research program with the University of Washington’s Global Health department and Mekerere University to investigate health issues facing pregnant women in rural communities. Conducted qualitative research using focus groups, village health team interviews, key informant interviews, and clinical observations to determine the level of involvement of senior female family members in young women's choices to pursue and participate in family planning.
