Marian Neuhouser

Biography

Dr. Marian Neuhouser is a Full Member, Cancer Prevention Program, Division of Public Health Sciences, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and an Affiliate Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Core Faculty in the Graduate Program in Nutritional Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Washington.

Dr. Neuhouser is also President of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Nutrition.

A nutritional epidemiologist with broad experience in large clinical trials such as the Women’s Health Initiative and the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial, Dr. Neuhouser has also led investigations of small-scale controlled dietary interventions as well as large observational cohort studies. She has expertise in the role of numerous dietary and energy balance factors in cancer risk and cancer survivorship. Her research also focuses on methods to improve diet and physical activity assessment, diet and physical activity in relation to energy balance, diet-related health disparities, and dietary factors related to breast and prostate cancer prevention and survivorship.

Dr. Neuhouser is currently Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on several NIH-funded grants and contracts. She has authored over 300 peer-reviewed publications and a dozen book chapters related to dietary assessment methods, diet and health and cancer prevention. Dr. Neuhouser is a member of the American Association for Cancer Research, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, the American Society for Preventive Oncology, and the American Society for Nutrition where she serves as President for 2016-2017.

As a member of TREC since its inception in 2005, Dr. Neuhouser has worked closely with a wide array of transdisciplinary scientists in energetics and cancer. She continues to collaborate with TREC colleagues. Her experience is integral to the TREC Training Workshop for which she serves on the Senior Advisory Board as well as faculty.
