Kudos for February 2019

Vincent T. DeVita, Jr., MD, Amy and Joseph Perella Professor of Medicine, has published the 11th edition of Cancer: Principles and Practices of Oncology, along with Theodore Lawrence and Steven Rosenberg. The first edition of the book was published 37 years ago.

James Farrell, MBChB, professor of medicine (digestive diseases) was the lead author in the recently published paper, “Incremental value of DNA analysis in pancreatic cysts stratified by clinical risk factors,” in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Xavier Llor, MD, PhD, professor of medicine (digestive diseases) published “Lack of APC somatic mutation is associated with early-onset colorectal cancer in African Americans.” In Carcinogenesis in December 2018.

Katherine McKenzie, MD, FACP, published “Asylum Seekers in a Time of Record Forced Global Displacement: the Role of Physicians” in the Journal of General Internal Medicine in January 2019.

Rachel Perry, PhD, assistant professor (endocrinology) received the Yale Cancer Center Translational Science Research Prize, for her paper, “Uncoupling Hepatic Oxidative Phosphorylation Reduces Tumor Growth in Two Murine Models of Colon Cancer,” published in Cell Reports.

Sheela Shenoi, MD, MPHl, assistant professor of medicine (infectious diseases) is working with a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in East Hartford via the New England AIDS Education Training Center grant and was instrumental in creating and putting in place a PrEP protocol, which launched in January 2019. This protocol will potentially save many in this vulnerable community from getting HIV. She plans to expand this protocol to another FQHC in Waterbury.

Andrea Silber, MD, associate professor of clinical medicine (medical oncology) won the Yale Cancer Center Awards for Excellence in Clinical Care for her longstanding outreach work and efforts in community engagement and for her mentorship.

Sandra Springer, MD, associate professor of medicine (infectious diseases) co-authored “Medications for Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder among Persons Living with HIV,” in Current HIV/AIDS Reports in January 2019.
