Dr. Portnoy received her PhD in clinical and community psychology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County after completing predoctoral internship at VA Boston Healthcare System. She first joined Yale's Department of Psychiatry in 2016 as a postdoctoral research fellow through VA Connecticut Healthcare System and Yale School of Medicine’s Advanced Fellowship in Women’s Health.
Dr. Portnoy's program of research includes intimate partner violence (IPV) perpetration, with a focus on detection, prevention, and treatment. Other primary research interests include the intersecting areas of trauma, reducing risk for revictimization, and women’s health. Dr. Portnoy is a recent recipient of the VISN 1 Career Development Award through VA New England Healthcare System; her current work focuses on the development, evaluation, and implementation of IPV screening at VA, particularly as related to IPV perpetration.
