Dr. Zubal earned his Ph.D. (1981) in Bio-Physics from the University of Saarland, while in the DKFZ (German Cancer Research Center), Nuclear Medicine Department, Heidelberg, Germany. He completed his post-doctoral training at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Upton, NY, and then was hired as Senior Scientist and Project Manager for Medical Computer Development at Picker International Inc. (now Philips Medical Systems). He joined the faculty of Yale-New Haven Hospital as Technical Director for Nuclear Medicine in 1986, where he received awards from the Whitaker Foundation, DOE, and NIH for researching computer applications in medical imaging, in particular for developing clinical SPECT and PET image processing tools for localizing seizure onset and propagation in epilepsy. After gaining experience in the private sector related to software development for DaTscan and Amyvid quantitation, he started a small business (Z-Concepts LLC) focused on clinically applied quantitative methods for new FDA-approved radio-pharmaceuticals as tools for enhancing diagnosis and management of neurological disorders.
