INFORMATION FOR

Pediatric Sedation Service

Within Yale Medicine, the Section of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine provides sedation services to children undergoing diagnostic testing and procedures. The physicians and nurses work together with Child Life specialists and ancillary staff to ensure that children receive the appropriate pain control and sedation for their procedure. The sedation service also consults and coordinates care as needed with the pediatric anesthesia group.

The Pediatric Sedation Service is comprised of physicians, advanced practice nurses (APRNs) and registered nurses, all of who are trained in the proper use of sedating medications and airway management. The physicians are board-certified or board eligible in pediatric intensive care and are credentialed to provide this service by Yale Medicine and the Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. The APRNs and nursing staff, all have several years of experience and are highly skilled in sedation management, monitoring and placement of intravenous (IV) catheters.
