William Tamborlane receives top honor for clinical diabetes research

Professor of pediatrics Dr. William Tamborlane has been selected to receive the 2017 Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Diabetes Research Award from the American Diabetes Association (ADA).

The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate significant impact on diabetes prevention and treatment. It honors Tamborlane’s outstanding contributions in patient-oriented clinical outcomes research.

The award includes a $3,000 honorarium as well as expenses to attend the ADA’s 77th Scientific Session in San Diego on June 12, where Tamborlane will be presented with the award.

Tamborlane is also chief of pediatric endocrinology at Yale School of Medicine. His many accomplishments include pioneering studies in the development of insulin pump therapy, direction of the Yale Center in the DCCT/EDIC study, and investigations of diabetes-induced defects in counter-regulatory hormone responses to hypoglycemia. His current research efforts are directed at applying recent advances in insulin pump and glucose sensor technology toward the development of an artificial pancreas.
