Adolescent Medicine Training

• Four-week rotations for all pediatric and internal medicine-pediatric residents in adolescent medicine
• Training for nursing students in the care of the adolescent
• Training for third-year psychiatry residents in child and adolescent psychiatry
• Training for Yale medical students - required 3rd year pediatrics rotation and 4th year electives

The clinicians in the section of adolescent medicine provide pediatrics and medicine/pediatric residents with a 4-week rotation in adolescent medicine. This rotation offers clinical teaching and practice in Primary Care, through the Primary Care Clinic at Yale New Haven Hospital and also School Based Clinics.

Also offered is referral care for complex medical issues (through the Adolescent Comprehensive Care Clinic in New Haven and also at our Norwalk location, other locations include the Yale Family Planning Clinic and Yale Sport Wellness Clinic).

Additionally, residents see adolescent patients at a number of sites outside Yale; these include a College Health Clinic sessions at Fairfield University, (under the guidance of Joanne Zolkowski-Wynne), and the Bridgeport Juvenile Detention facility. These clinical sites are offered to provide residents with a varied and comprehensive clinical experience in Adolescent Medicine.

In addition, the PCC Adolescent Clinic serves as a site for medical students during the pediatric primary care portion of the required Biopsychosocial Approach to Health Clerkship, and a two-week elective for 4th year medical students, which will allow students to rotate through all of the primary care and subspecialty sites providing care to adolescents. The advanced level nurse practitioners also precept medical students at the school-based clinic sites as part of their pediatric ambulatory rotations.
