Dr Vasiliki Pelekanou received her MD (2004) and PhD (2008) from the University of Crete School of Medicine in Greece. She completed her Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Institut Jules Bordet-Free University of Brussels, Belgium. She then was awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship (European Union) at University of Crete, School of Medicine. She is trained in Pathology and Cytopathology at Free University of Brussels (Belgium) and University of Crete (Greece). She is board certified in Pathology. She is member of international scientific associations and ad hoc reviewer in 7 scientific journals. She holds 4 international patents. Her research is dedicated on cancer, with a special focus on breast cancer. Her main research interests are related to tumor microenvironment, extranuclear sex steroid receptors and growth factors. At present, she is appointed as a Research Associate Scientist, at the Pathology Department of Yale University School of Medicine. Her current research effort focuses on tumor immune landscape, with a special focus on tumor associated macrophages molecular signatures and the potential of combined conventional and immune-related therapies.
