Kavli Institute for Neuroscience Offers Two Funding Opportunities

November 18, 2020

The Kavli Institute for Neuroscience is excited to announce two funding opportunities. We encourage applications that cross the boundaries of more than one field to address important questions in neuroscience: for example, outstanding projects that bring together individuals working in different scientific areas, or those that apply technologies developed in other disciplines such as physics, chemistry, or engineering.

Postdoctoral fellowships will support postdocs at the interface of neuroscience and another field, under the joint supervision of at least two Yale mentors with different areas of expertise. Funding will support one year of postdoctoral effort, at a level of $5,000 above the corresponding NIH postdoc scale, plus an additional $20,000 for research. Please submit a two-page proposal (single-spaced, Arial 11pt font, including maximum of one figure, excluding references), CV of the applicant, NIH-style biosketch of each mentor, and a simple budget to https://apply.interfolio.com/81033 by February 28, 2021.

Eligibility: Postdoctoral applicants should be within four years of attaining their PhD. Mentors should be Yale faculty and can be from any department. US residency or citizenship is not required.

Faculty awards will support innovative, cutting-edge research proposals, with high risk and reward, that aim to discover new biology or develop methodology of relevance to neuroscience. The successful proposals will be highly interdisciplinary, typically involving the complementary expertise of more than one Yale lab. Per Kavli Foundation stipulations, funds are not to be used for faculty salaries, but can be used for other research expenses. This year, two types of applications will be considered:

  • Proposals with one-year budgets of up to a total of $100,000 for collaborative pairs.

  • Proposals with one-year budgets of up to $200,000 for collaborative projects involving 3

    or more labs

Please submit a two-page proposal (single-spaced, Arial 11pt font, including maximum of one figure, excluding references), the NIH-style biosketch of each Investigator, and a simple budget to https://apply.interfolio.com/81036 by February 28, 2021.

Applications will be reviewed by an ad hoc committee selected by the Kavli Steering Committee. Funding can begin as early as May 2021. Please direct any inquiries or questions to katherine.bownes@yale.edu.
