Viruses hijack their host regulatory pathways to gain access to translation resources. The viruses that we study mediate this takeover by inducing a massive RNA decay event. Yet some host transcripts are refractory to this viral-induced RNA decay and my lab studies how the mechanisms allowing these mRNA to escape degradation.
