Yale Fertility Center combines cutting edge research, attention to details, and personalized care to offer lesbian women a variety of options to achieve pregnancy and parenthood.
Lesbians seeking treatment in our program sometimes only require intrauterine insemination with donor sperm in order to achieve motherhood. At other times, the treatment may be more complex requiring in vitro fertilization or egg donation along with donor sperm. Some same sex female couples choose to have both partners involved, one to provide the eggs and the other the uterus.
- Sperm donation
- Lesbian patients may use donor sperm from a number of banks as well as from Yale Sperm Donation program. They may also choose to use sperm from a known donor (friend or relative). The use of donated sperm is strictly regulated by the Federal Drug Association (FDA), and requires extensive testing of the sperm donor as well as quarantine of the sperm for a period of 6 months. The details of sperm donor selection, transport and use of the frozen sperm will be discussed with you during your visit with the physician.
