Dear faculty, staff, and friends:
I want to start by thanking all of you for your contributions to the department. You are why we continue to be a world-class institution.
We have again been ranked among the very best obstetrics and gynecology departments in the world. In its 2025 edition, Newsweek placed Yale Ob/Gyn as #10 worldwide, one of only four U.S. institutions in the top 10 ranking. You all deserve the credit as it takes a great team to accomplish this level of success.
One of our leaders who helps us to achieve this kind of distinction is Josh Copel, MD. We will celebrate his career and recognize him as the 2025 Yale Obstetrical and Gynecological Society [YOGS] honoree. I hope you will all join us May 3. It will be a full afternoon of lectures, followed by dinner at the Graduate Club.
While our department is among the best in the world, overall academic medicine is at a critical juncture. With funding from the National Institutes of Health in jeopardy and health care costs on the rise, we are facing significant financial challenges. Regardless, please know we remain committed to our academic missions.
We will continue to be clinically innovative and provide exceptional, world-class care. We will prioritize where we can be most impactful and empower our outstanding faculty to sustain excellence in research and education. Instilling the next generation with a sense of service, mission, and resilience will keep academic medicine relevant. Only then can we achieve the bright future our current scientific advances promise to deliver.
Together with your help, Yale Ob/Gyn will remain at the forefront of academic medicine!
