Both Reddy and Polan were present.

“There’s nothing you can’t do at this university,” Polan said. “It is a pleasure to support this program and medical school.”

In her remarks, Reddy noted it was a great honor to be endowed with Polan’s legacy. Polan was the first woman graduate of Yale Ob/Gyn’s residency program; a Yale MD, PhD, and fellowship graduate; and a Yale faculty member before becoming chair of ob/gyn at Stanford University.

“I am deeply grateful to Dr. Polan and her husband, Frank Bennack, to Dr. Taylor and the department, and to Yale for this extraordinary honor and for the opportunity to return to Yale and be associated with the name of Dr. Mary Lake Polan,” said Reddy. (Read her full speech)
