Mena-Hurtado Elected Fellow of American Heart Association

Carlos Mena-Hurtado MD, specializes in the management of vascular disease and the advancement of cardiovascular health.

Carlos Mena-Hurtado, MD, has been elected a Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), the association’s most prestigious class of membership awarded to select individuals for their scientific publications, teaching distinction, clinical excellence, and leadership in cardiovascular disease.

Mena-Hurtado is an associate professor of medicine and co-director of the Vascular Medicine Outcomes Program (VAMOS). His research contributions in the field of vascular medicine include evaluating the feasibility of a nationwide screening program for peripheral artery disease (PAD), proposing new strategies to improve the quality of care for patients living with PAD, and documenting the need for guideline-directed medical therapy among patients undergoing PAD procedures.

Mena joined the Yale faculty in 2012 to direct the Vascular Medicine program. He earned his medical degree from the University of Antioquia Medical School in Medellín, Colombia, and served as the chief medical resident at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH). Later, he completed Yale’s Fellowship Training Program in Cardiovascular Disease and Interventional Cardiology Fellowship.

Founded in 1924, the AHA is a leading advocate for the prevention of cardiovascular disease and stroke. Newly elected fellows will be recognized at the AHA’s Scientific Sessions.
